AI model training

When prompting stops being enough, training on your own data is the next step, but only with evaluation behind it.
Teams fine-tune without a benchmark, so nobody can prove the model got better or worse.
How we work together.
The task, the metric and the acceptable error rate.
Build and validate the training dataset.
Run experiments against a fixed benchmark.
Deploy, monitor and plan retraining.
Outcomes & Stack
Common questions.
Do we need fine-tuning at all?
Often not. I test retrieval and prompting first and only recommend training when it clearly wins.
Where does our data live?
In infrastructure you control, with a written data handling agreement.
Do we need our own GPUs?
No, training and inference typically run on cloud infrastructure sized to the project, with cost estimates agreed upfront.
How much data do we need to get started?
It depends on the task, but I will tell you honestly if the dataset is too small before starting training.
Can you fine-tune an open source model instead of a commercial one?
Yes, open source models are considered wherever they meet the accuracy and cost requirements.
Why hire a freelancer for ai model training instead of an agency?
You work directly with the person doing the work. There are no account managers, no hand-offs between departments and no agency overheads built into the quote, so decisions are faster and budgets go further.
Do you work with clients outside South Africa?
Yes. I work remotely with businesses across South Africa and internationally, with clear written scopes, regular progress updates and a staging link you can review at any time.
How do I get a quote?
Send a short brief through the contact page describing your goals, timeline and any existing systems. You will get a written scope and fixed quote before any work starts.
