Shona Catholic Hymns App: Lyrics, Prayers and Saints in Your Pocket

Harmony of Saints puts Shona Catholic hymn lyrics, prayers and saint guides on your phone — searchable, offline, and free. Here is why it exists and who it is for.
Somebody in your parish owns the hymn book. One person. And they are always three rows away when the cantor starts a verse you half-remember.
That small friction — the fumbling, the leaning over, the mumbling until the chorus — is the problem Harmony of Saints was built to remove.

The smallest useful thing
It would have been easy to build a big app. Audio streaming. Accounts. Social feeds. Notifications begging you to come back.
We built the smallest useful thing instead: the words. Shona Catholic hymn lyrics, Catholic prayers in Shona, and short guides to the saints with the prayers associated with them. Nothing else competing for your attention while you are trying to worship.
Who it is for
- Choir members who practise on a Wednesday and lead on a Sunday.
- Parishioners who grew up with these hymns but never learned all the verses.
- The diaspora — Shona-speaking Catholics in South Africa, the UK, Australia and beyond who want the language of home in the liturgy.
- Young Catholics learning Shona through the hymns their grandparents sang.
- Catechists and youth leaders who need the correct wording of a prayer, right now, without a search engine detour.

Offline is a feature, not a fallback
Most churches are concrete boxes. Data is expensive. Loadshedding is real. An app that needs four bars to show you a verse is not a hymn book — it is a hymn book that sometimes works.
Harmony of Saints assumes the worst connection and behaves the same either way.
Why language matters here
You can pray in any language. But you tend to mean it in your first one. The Shona hymns carry rhythm and idiom that translations flatten. Keeping them alive on the devices people actually hold all day is a small act of preservation.
That is the whole thesis: the culture survives where it is convenient.
What it does not do
No ads chasing you between verses. No account to create before you can read a prayer. No feed. If we ever add audio, it will be because choirs asked, not because it makes the app look busier.
Frequently asked questions
Is Harmony of Saints free?
Yes. It is free to download on Google Play.
Does it work without internet?
Yes — the hymn lyrics and prayers are available offline once installed.
Does it include audio or sheet music?
Not currently. It is a lyrics, prayers and saints reference. Feedback from choirs shapes what comes next.
Is it only for Zimbabweans?
No. It is for anyone who worships in Shona, anywhere in the world.
Can I suggest a hymn or correct a verse?
Yes, and please do. Corrections from real choirs are the fastest way the library improves.
Take it to Mass on Sunday
Install it once. Open it when the cantor stands up. See if the fumbling stops.
